The Client

Digital By Creatives (DBC) is a young enterprise creative agency based in Chicago that focuses on social media marketing and paid advertising.

The Challenge

The process for creating short-form social content was unclear:

  • Influencers submitted limited and inconsistent clips
  • Editors (like myself) had to reverse-engineer ideas to fit trends
  • Leadership often had a strong vision, but loose system for communicating it clearly
  • As the agency expanded to work with more creators, quality risked becoming inconsistent

Without clearer documentation and expectations, creative output was harder to scale and less aligned with brand goals.

What I Did

I proposed and implemented two key systems to improve clarity and efficiency across the team:

1. Content Briefs

A structured doc outlining:

  • Desired vibe and energy of the content (e.g., polished vs. candid, humorous vs. sincere)
  • Targeted trends or formats
  • Suggested shot types and example videos
  • Key creative notes from leadership

These briefs became a shared touchpoint between the influencer, editor, and project manager — cutting down on back-and-forth and creative guesswork.

2. Trend + Template Audit

I also built a running database of:

  • High-performing trends
  • Breakdown of what made them effective
  • Recommended applications across different brands/influencers

This served as both inspiration and training — particularly helpful for onboarding new team members or evaluating influencer fit.
